Questions before the flour cloud
Muffins, brownies, banana bread, and drop cookies are usually the easiest because the jobs are visible: dump, stir, scoop, sprinkle, and let the adult handle the hot part.
Many kids can start with tiny supervised jobs around age 2 or 3, like placing muffin liners or dumping pre-measured ingredients. The adult stays in charge of safety and the recipe.
Pre-measure tricky ingredients, use small bowls for sprinkles and chips, put a towel under the work area, and choose low-mess-ish baking activities with short kid-facing steps.
Preschoolers do well with banana bread, muffins, sugar cookies, boxed brownie upgrades, and decorating cooled cupcakes or cookies.
